Subject: [MO-CEM] How to Help Tornado Victims
Date: Wed, 7 May 2003 21:22:37 -0500

I worked for the American Red Cross for 7 years in Wyandotte County Kansas
where some of the worst damage occurred. I highly recommend a donation
earmarked for "Tornado Victims" be sent to the Red Cross. Even though people
want to send water and used clothing, etc, it really can become a nightmare
to warehouse the stuff and figure out how to distribute it. The Red Cross
has tried and true methods of giving vouchers to families for clothing,
housing, food, medicine, etc. They can take the vouchers to the store of
their choice and it also helps restart the local economy. Longer term help
is available through FEMA (your Federal dollars at work), but the Red Cross
provides shelters, food, etc. in the short run. Addresses in the Kansas City
area are:

Wyandotte County American Red Cross

1600 Washington Blvd.

Kansas City, KS 66102

or

American Red Cross

Greater Kansas City Chapter

211 W. Armour Blvd.

Kansas City, MO 64111

Thanks, Kathi
