Hi John,
My GG Grandfather, Oliver P. Williams, served under the alias of John
Williams in the Civil War. Some documents say that he mustered into the
U.S. service by General Lyons in June 1861, and was equiped by and drew
supplies from the U.S. Government. He served for 90 days then, because
Governor Jackson had vacated his office and took up headquarters at
Boonville, MO with all the state troops. He was stationed at Jefferson City
under General Lyons to protect the Capital. He was then disbanded by
General Fremont.
He also served in the Cole County 43rd Regiment, Co. G of the Enrolled
Missouri Militia on July 26th, 1862, and held the rank of 1st Sargeant,
serving until October 25, 1863. Other information indicated that the 43rd
EMM was mobilized for defense and participated in the defense of Jefferson
City, as well as to provide service on the main line of the Pacific
Railroad. Other documents later show he was with Company H, 1st Regiment,
U.S. Reserve Corps.
He is buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Tipton, Missouri.
Thanks for getting him included,
Kenneth E. Krawczyk
