Bill,

I noticed one of your surnames was Mosbacher. I have some research on a Mosbach family in Marlenheim, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France. It was known that when Alsace went back and forth from German to French that some of the people would change their name so as not to be "so" French or to not be "so" German depending on their leanings. During the Napoleonic war many people left Alsace and came to America to avoid his draft. Many in my family left for just that reason. If you are interested I will give you what little bit I have on the Mosbachs in my notes. My great great grandmother would bristle if anyone called her German, so I have been told, but she could speak both French and German. Her home town was Balbronn (very French) but was only 20 miles from the German border.
