Last week I went with the land owner to try and find where my family
cemetery might be. It was disappointing in that there was absolutely no
area that wasn't being used as pasture and no signs of stones anywhere. It
appears that the cemetery has been buried/bulldozed/trampled by cows a long
time ago. We don't have an exact location, just the deed stating the
general section quarter.
The land owner couldn't have been more gracious and helpful. His wife and
the person who rents the land came too. We walked all over and the land
owner tried to dredge up memories of working there with his father as a
child and young man in case he could remember any clues.
I also went to the courthouse, but didn't find anything except the same
vague description of the location.
Is there anything else to be done? I guess there could be stones buried
although and some might have readable fragments.
We did find the approximate site of the house based on the 1876 plat map and
a grove of trees.
This is in Monroe County.
