Loretta, my story from my mother is simple . She thought that was a cute
name. Especially for a 3 lb baby who was not going to live( i'm 70+) and
she got it out of her system my five sibling have common names.
The spooky story comes from my picture in the K. C Star when
Mid-Contenent Genealogical Library moved to a new building. A Lady called ;
She was doing a study of cross gender names. We chatted awhile then I ask
for her name and address. Want to guess? She was a Buddie Grace born
"little italy" just six months before me. My Mom had worked in K. C.
To continue the story i have only one daughter, named for her grandmothers
Frances La Nita, another cross gender name.
I have had an interest in sobrinets; Sally is common for Sarah. Ann maybe
nancy, Margaret is Peggy, Elizabeth may also be Peggy, beth, Lizzie but
rarely Eliza, Martha becomes Mollie, Mary- Polley , yes poll e y, Bessie
maybe Elizabeth but Bess is usually Bess or Bernice who is often Bernie
listed male.Harriet=Nettie /Hattie, Dorothy= Dolly, and so it goes. Bud.
