Subject: [MO-CW] CW Roundtable South Central Missouri
Date: Sat, 09 Jun 2001 00:33:01 -0500

An attempt is being made to organize a Civil War Roundtable, with focus
upon events in South Central Missouri, and North Central Arkansas. While
there were no major battles fought in our area, many of our men
participated in battles in other parts of these two states. We hope to
research and better understand the partisan and guerilla nature of the war
in Southern Missouri and North Arkansas (the other Missouri border
war). The initial meeting of this proposed group will be held at the
"Spotted Goose" or old Williams Restaurant, located on Highway 99, just
north of the 11 Point River Bridge in the community of Thomasville (Oregon
County, MO). Don't laugh, Thomasville was once the center of the world for
folks living in Howell, Oregon and surrounding counties, and was important
enough to be occupied by both sides on several occasions during the
war! Anyway, we will start the meeting at 5PM, Saturday, June
9. Realizing this is rather short notice for folks living at a distance,
we promise to inform this group of our progress and will post a listing of
future meetings in a more timely manner. There is no charge - anyone with
an interest is encouraged to attend. For additional info -
