The Columbia Encyclopedia states James Lane committed suicide, and James Browning in his, "Violence Was No Stranger: A Guide to the Grave Sites of Famous Westerners" states he died July 11, 1866 and buried in Lawrence Cemetery at Lawrence, Kansas.

Rose Mary,
You know I thought I read that Lane committed sucide, but in the book "Three Years With Quantrill" by O.S.Barton w/notes from Albert Catel and told by John McCorkle. On page 92 it say's Boone shot him dead, refering to Jim Lane. The horse was Lane's down fall, then Boone's down fall and when Boone died he said he wanted Capt. Todd to have his horse, this horse and it's misbehavior was almost the cause of Todd's death, page 114 same book.
Anyway, my main point was that I feel very strongly about finding Boone Scholl was buried at Smith Cemetary. Where did you read he commited sucide? Maybe another Jim Lane???
