GENERAL PRICE IS ABOUT TO BE SURROUNDED
OCTOBER SEVENTEENTH 1864

On the 17th of 1864 General Price begins to receive notices from
his scouts that the federal forces are beginning to surround him
in Missouri. They had spent weeks moving through their state and
were almost unchallenged.

Fighting continues with the yankees both to their rear guard and
in the front, as General Price and his Confederate Cavalry rides
toward Lexington in northwest Missouri. They began sensing their
freedom to raid was being confronted.

Union forces were now closing in one these southern raiders from
three directions. General Samuel Curtis was approaching from the
west; Alfred Pleasonton and his cavalry were pursuing from their
rear; and General Alfred J Smith is quickly coming up from south
Missouri.

General Price's cavalry decides to burn Smithville while they're
passing through the town. They move onto occupy Carrolton during
the day.
