The Civil War Museum isn't open as of yet, however Jefferson Barracks is still worth the trip if you are going to be in St Louis. The barracks was opened in 1823 as a military post, some of these buildings still exist, and are open to the public. Part of the old post is now a national cemetery. The view of the Mississippi River from the overlook gives you the feeling of what most of the riverbanks must have looked like back then.
There is a highway that loops around the city, I-270, at its most southern point it turns into I-255. Same road, different name. Take I-255 to Telegraph Road, make a left onto Telegraph, stay in the right hand lane and look for the signs for Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 3 lights up on the right. The cemetery is on the right hand side of the road. There are plenty of other signs in the area to direct you to Jefferson Barracks County Park. Just remember the whole area was part of the military complex during the Civil War. The park has a museum, visitors center and more. The staff has always been very helpful and knowledgeable. Hope this helps.
