Glenn,
I believe one of the leaders was named Todd, but have no idea if this is the person in your story.

I have just found and joined this list and have read with interest the emails. The book may be Gray Ghosts of the Confederacy by Richard S. Brownlee and also might check on Elmo Ingenthron's Borderland Rebellion. My ancestors from MO served with a 'partisan ranger' group out of Miller and Cole Counties in MO , hiding out in caves on the Osage river with a guerilla general named Crabtee. They had to "lite out for Texas after the war because of a bounty on their heads or thats the story anyway. I was "raised" on stories of their exploits during the War and could almost write my own book about their adventures . My daddy would always start by saying, "did you know your great grandpa was a go-rilla?" Didn't take me long to figure out he wasn't talking about a jungle creature at all. I read with interest the story of the beheading by Anderson because a similar story came down our family only the beheading was by a guerilla named Dodd or Todd. Anyway, the stories I heard !
were
fascinating and its nice to find a list that shares my interest in Mo in the Civil War. (Our name was Shumate).
