Thank you for this answer. I also heard from a Mr Taylor and he was very
helpful. I did some hunting on two of the sites that he suggusted. I
discovered my step 2nd great grand father in a unit and the site said that
the units lists was taken from Confederate POW lists. Confederate POW where
were they taken after they were captured? How would I find him on one of
these lists and where would I look? He saw my 2nd greatgrand father get shot
and die. Maybe he was captured at this time too. My step 2nd greatgrand
father Henry Waller died of a head wound that he got during the war. He
could have gotten it at the same time as his friend my 2nd greatgrand father
William Bea was killed. Then maybe he was captured and could not return home
till the wars end. Henry Waller went home and two years after the war
married William's widow. I guess that this is a little confusing but Much of
this is a mystery and I would like to descover how much of this story is
true. Finding Henry's name in a unit lists and they had no other records but
put that list together from POW lists really was a new bit of info that I
had not heard before.
I will be checking out the MO sect of state website. I have sent for federal
records but they do not have Union Malitia records.
I have ancestors with both sides. Two grandpaws on the union side and two on
the confed side in MO. They are various stages of greats. Only got federal
records on one. So am happy to know that I can ask for records from the
state of MO. I guess that I will have to pay for my step 2nd great grandpa
records if they exist.
Thanks for your help!
