Arleigh,
Thank you so much for your help. I've found a couple of possible matches on one of the websites you listed and I'll have to investigate them a little further. I have a question though please. An old newspaper article states that two of my ancestors were taken prisoner in Springfield, Missouri. One was shot trying to escape and the other died as well but not sure how. Was there a prison in Springfield? Would it have been near Wilson's Creek? Sorry for all the questions but I'd like to start making some progress on this part of my research since I've put it off too long.
Thanks again!

Missouri Digital Heritage

Missouri Division Sons of Confederate Veterans

National Park Service Civil War Soldiers and Sailors

I find the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors system the easiest and most intuitive
to use, but that is probably just because I have been using it for so long. The
SCV site has a lot more information on Missouri Confederates, but I still have
some trouble navigating it and finding what I want. Once I find it, it is a
gold mine. The Missouri Digital system has a lot of information that is not
available on the National system, such
as rosters for the Enrolled Missouri
Militia.
Once you find the name you are looking for in one of these systems, you then
need to find out how to get copies of the records to verify the facts. That can
take some asking questions and searching the Internet to get sources, addresses,
and contacts.

Hi,
I'm a new subscriber to this list also and hope some of you can help me
out.
I've been researching my family for several years but have put off
searching for Civil War records because I'm a little intimidated with the
whole
thing. My question is where/how do I start?
Thanks for any help!
Elaine
