In Joanne Eakin & Donald Hale's book, BRANDED AS REBELS, they list a William
C. Harris and a William J. Harris.
William C. was of the 1st NE Missouri Cavalry, died of disease while a POW
at the Alton, Illinois Military Prison on Dec. 18, 1862. Ref: Ingmire.
William J. was of Boone County, MO. A guerrilla, hanged Mar. 24, 1865;
claimed to be a regular Confederate soldier. Born in Randolph Co., MO,
enlisted in Newton Co. Served 3 yrs, re-enlisted, deserted. Had a wife &
child in Audrain Co., MO. she was with her father, D.C. Woods. Harris was
age 27 or 28. Ref: Missouri Republican, Mar. 25, 1865.
