THE CEMETERY IS PROBABLY JEFFERSON BARRACKS NATIONAL CEMETERY. I HAD THE HONOR OF WORKING THERE FOR A SHORT STINT ?IN THE EARLY 70'S AFTER MY 4 YEAR TOUR WITH THE MARINE CORP 3RD DIVISION. THERE IS A PAULPER SECTION AND A CIVIL WAR ERA SECTION. THOSE AREAS ARE THE SITES CLOSEST TO THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. THERE IS ALSO NOW A MUSEUM FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD AT JEFFERSON BARRACKS. THE CEMETERY IS LOCATED AT THE END OF HWY 270 AT THE JEFFERSON BARRACKS BRIDGE. HOPE YOU FIND YOUR KIN.

My gr-gr grandfather was in Co. A, 23rd MO Infantry. In a forced march
on the way from Chillicothe, MO to Richmond MO in February of 1862, he
took sick and was left in the hospital in St. Louis. He died a couple
of months later. His military records show that he was buried in the
military cemetery in St. Louis (I forget the name) but I have not been
able to find him. He evidently has no stone. Is there a pauper's area
there? I would like to buy him a stone if I can find him. His brother
who fought in the area of the Hornet's Nest at Shiloh ( April 6 and 7,
1862) was captured and died of dysentery in a prison in GA. I don't
know if he has a marker or not. My gr-gr grandfather was William S.
Sanders born Jan 26, 1828 in Shelby Co, IN, enlisted in the Union Army
Dec. 28, 1861. He died April 26, 1862. His brother was John T. Sanders
in the same regiment.

I appreciate all the suggestions I received for tracking down uniform
and other military information earlier. Suzanne
