Good Afternoon,

Why do we join mailing lists?

I've been on scads of them! For a long time I was researching by myself
and never posted a word to any of the lists to which I subscribed.
[Didn't think I had anything to add since everyone else on the list had
been researching much longer.]

Then, one day the list administrator to one of my surname lists
contacted me privately and asked if there was anything she could do to
help in my research. I poured my little heart out to her! This nice
lady told me to post my message to the list, just as I had told it to
her that day. I followed her advice and it changed my "research life"
forever. What a wonderful woman!

Unfortunately, I am not that wonderful woman and neither is Lanita.
Neither of us is going to contact anyone privately to beg to help in
your research. That's why we started this list, so you could share with
us and let us know what we can do to help.

If you've been here awhile and have never posted, for whatever reasons,
take the first step now. I don't believe anyone here will bite. And, I
have personally, made a promise not to bite in 2004, so you can't use
that old excuse. As a group, we don't usually eat newbies the first
go-around.

If you are here to lurk [I think that's what they still call it] that's
okay, too - been there myself many times - but tell your story to the
list.
