Virginia:

As I mentioned on my previous postings to the list regarding the
naturalizations for St. Louis, the following website was put together to
answer your questions:

http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/naturalizations.htm

With this list of LDS microfilm numbers, you are now more informed than a
local LDS FHC volunteer in another state because you have done your homework
ahead of time. Volunteers are willing to help you if they can, but can't be
expected to know everything. She may be very informed on local CA
resources, but know nothing about St. Louis genealogy.

Step 1: I would recommend that you first look at the LDS microfilm for the
naturalization index for your particular surname(s) and find the index cards
for your people. Remember there are lots of misspelled surnames, so make a
copy of any entries which are close, could bes, might bes, possibles, or
remotely possible candidates, so you only go through this exercise once.

1381929 14
Naturalization Index Cards, 1840-1916 Sklar, David to Toni, Christian MCCSL
1381930 15

MCCSL 1381931 16
Naturalization Index Cards, 1840-1916 Wiber, Charles to Zulauf, Jacob MCCSL
1381932

Step 2: You should take the Vol. and Page number written on the index
card(s) and correlate them to a second LDS microfilm to find the
naturalization ledger entry/oath for your ancestor. You shouldn't have to
look at more than two or three LDS microfilms to find any one ancestor (if
their
naturalization records survived long enough to be microfilmed by the LDS)
barring any
gross misspellings of your surnames. Looking up your ancestors in the St.
Louis naturalization records using the process I have outlined above is very
straight-forward and should take away any confusion.

I hope this helps.

Jerry
