Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2007 15:45:07 -0500
Hello,
I am looking for a marriage between James H. Mitchell and someone named
Francis. James' first wife, Polly McGee died about 1846, soon after they
moved from Clinton County, Ohio. James died in a small pox epidemic in
about 1851-2 and Francis was named as his wife in the following Probate
Record:
**
*PROBATE RECORDS:*
*"State of Missouri, County of Andrew, I Charles F. Holly the Probate Judge
within and for the County and State above mentioned do herby appoint Ephraim
Myers and William T. Ellis accompaning withenesses to aid Robert Shaw
administrator of the estate of James H. Mitchell deceased in examining
papers and making out inventory ccording to law. Given under my hand this
the 19th day of September A.D. 1851..."*
*"State of Missouri, County of Andrews - To John B. Bennett Administrator on
the Estate of James H. Mitchel deceased will take notice that I will take
the deposition of Mrs. Mitchel the widow of said deceased on the 17th day of
March at the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Mills County State
of Iowa between the hours of Eight A.M four P.M. Feb 21st, 1854., signed W.
C. Barnes"*
*"Deposition of Mrs. Frances Mitchel taken before William Snuffin Clerk of
the District Court in and for the County of Mills and State of Iowa. Frances
Mitchel of lawful age, after being duly sworn according to law upon her oath
deposeth and says that I know W. C. Barns of Savannah Andrew County Mo., I
know that my husband James H. Mitchell deceased had an account with W. C.
Barnes for beef and wood had of (two words I can't read) said Barnes but the
precise amount I do not know. The time the account was made at divers times
in the years of 1851 and 1852 to the best of my recolection the foregoing
account for beef and wood was an open or running account for some thing like
twelve months and further deponant sayth Frances Mitchel (looks like she
signed it there)... 17th day of March A.D. 1854"*
*Bill of Sale - Oct 11, 1851 - Robert Shaw bought the family bible for
$1.25!!!*
I figure that James H. Mitchell married this Frances about 1848ish....
I would be interested if finding this marriage date and place.
Thanks!
Kathie
