"The Jewelry Store of C. E. Baldwin, in this city, under the charge of Mr.
H. Symmons, was entered on last Saturday night, and about two hundred
dollars worth of jewelry and money taken therefrom. The effects have been
covered; they were stowed away in a yard sock, under a bolt of shingles in
the alley North of our office, and were uninjured. No clue has yet been
ascertained as to who committed the theft. It is hoped, however, that the
sock may be identified-- which may yet me the means of throwing some light
upon the subject.."

"Elder N. W. Miller, Pastor of the Christian Church in this city, died at
Pleasant Hill, on Monday last.

"The death of Mr. Miller was sudden and deeply felt, not only by his
congregation in this city, but by the church at large in upper Missouri.
Mr. Miller was a young man, and blessed with talents, education and piety
and bid fair to be one of the most useful servants of the most High, in the
western country. His remains were brought to this city and interred in the
city cemetery on Wednesday. He leaves a young wife, and infant child, to
mourn his untimely death. Messenger"

[I'm counting on some of you Miller descendents to let me know who this
might be, as I don't have him in my files. I don't know what periodical the
"Messenger" is, though it might be a religious paper. MSE]

"Died-- In this city, on the 11th inst., Aleen, infant daughter of John G.
and Matilda H. Willis.

"Weep not for those

Who sink within the arms of death,

Ere yet the chilling wintry breath

Of sorrow o'er them blows;

But weep for them who here remain,

The mournful heritage of pain,

Condemn'd to see each bright joy fade

And mark grief's melancholy shade

Flung o'er Hope's fairest rose."

"Died-- Of inflamation [sic] of the brain in this City, on Wednesday the
11th inst., America A., daughter of John G. and Matilda H. Willis-- aged 2
years, 3 months and 11 days.

She was Father's doating pet,

A Mother's anxious care,

It hardly seems she's left them yet,

She was so young in years,

But still their fondest hopes must blight,

And soon their sorrows come,

But now she is an angel bright,

In Heaven her lasting home.
