Resolving discrepancies is part of the game. Primary documents are hard to
come by before the advent of registered birth and death certificates and Social
Security records. Sometimes census records can help, etc. military records
where there are such. And the amount of work it takes to run down even a few
records means one must build a fence around a well-defined group of people and
say "this many and no more." About the time you've done that something comes
up thats outside your fence and has everything to do with what is inside.
