List Readers: I would like to explain what a copyright violation is.

Taking photos or other things from the Barry County web site and posting
them on "Find A Grave" or any other web site for that matter, without
permission to do so, is a violation of copyright. That kind of violation is
easy to trace and carries a huge fine.

If I didn't give you permission to use them - then you have violated our
copyright. You can use them for your own files and can take them for your
own private use but that is different from posting them somewhere else.

I really do feel bad for our volunteers - our helpers - who work so hard for
us when you take their work and put your name on it. Even if you can pay a
copyright fine, I would think that you would know that is the wrong kind of
thing to do.

To put it in a different light - It's about the same thing as shoplifting
because the merchandise you took was not yours.

If you see people who are doing this - please remind them of what the word
copyright" means. Sometimes there are people who have to be reminded about
honesty.
