I found this information today and with the elections in the forefront of
news these days, I just had to share some Keene's in politics'. (However not
very successful at it)
Atchison Globe, Atchison, Kansas
April 6, 1881
Section:
East Atchison, Buchanan County, Missouri
The second election of Councilmen in East Atchison was held yesterday, and
results in favor of the ticket nominated by the citizens and tax payers.
The vote stood as follows:
Citizen's and Taxpayers ticket:
T. R Shelly 113, John Meyer, 111, Fred Reuthinger 117
Democratic Ticket:
Joseph Grooms, 23, John Worrell 19, C.V. Keene, 10.
There was great rejoicing among the successful party when the results was
known, and a display of fireworks from Hulse's drug store. This caused the
friends of the defeated opposition to fill up with juice and go on the war
path. They marched in a body to the saloon at the corner of Main and South
streets and loud threats of "carving" the successful party, but the latter
party also turned out in force and marched to the chosen field of battle
with the intention of seeing about it. The forces of the unsuccessful party
then ran up the flag of truce and were allowed to retreat in good order.

So... how many of the Keene Klan are still democrat's?? LMAO. I hope you
enjoyed this as much as it did!
