I do not believe there was a prison in Buchanan County in 1900. There was the State Asylum Number 2 and there was a county jail.

As far as obtaining records for the state asylum I believe you need to obtain a court order and then you can write to the state hospital. There is still a small portion of this facility left in St. Joseph.

The original facility has been turned into a minimum security prison.
