My line of Steinbecks was in Cape Girardeau
until about 1858 and then disappear. We know Daniel Steinbeck who m.
Louis deLorimier's dau Agatha d. in 1825. William Steinbeck his nephew
(from VA) m. Zilphey POE disappeared about mid 1850..

There were some sons from both to carry the Steinbeck name.
Believe the line you speak of would be Herbert F. and from the book
Missouri Mother of the West Vol V..The American Historical Society Inc.
pg 239 I found Herbert's bio.

It mentions Steinbeck being prominent in the newspaper business
in Franklin Co. Also Augustus Albert being owner/publisher of the
FranklinCo. Tribune of Union.

I never could find a connection although a Henry Steinbeck is mentioned
as being one of the founders of the family in MO.

My gg grandfather was Henry Steinbeck in VA.

Does anything sound familiar? Shirley Toohey
