Pages 101-103 of Cuma Schofield's "My Mother's Brown Family" has the family of Nicholas & Mary (DeHart) Handy. Nicholas was born between 1800 & 1810 in Virginia, married 12 Sep 1822 in Patrick County, Virginia, lived in Franklin County, Virginia on 1830 census and in Lee County, Virginia on 1840 census, and died
between 1843 when the last child was born and when Mary is a widow on the 1850 Lee County, Virginia census. Cuma believes that Nicholas was the son of John & Grace (Gimmett) Handy. John was the son of William & Mary (Robbins) Handy who married 25 Aug 1768 Somerset County, Coventry Parish, Maryland. & Grace the
daughter of John & Gracey Gimmett. Mary DeHart was the daughter of John & Elander (Scott) DeHart who married 3 Sep 1792 Amherst Co VA.
In 1852, Mary (DeHart) Handy, her four sons, and a large number of the descendants of Gabriel & Jane (Scott) Chrisman spent three months coming from the Cumberland Gap on the Powell River in Virginia to what became Christian County, MO.
The children of Nicholas & Mary (DeHart) Handy were:
1. Stephen DeHart Handy c1823 - ? Went to Kentucky
2. John Handy 9 Feb 1824 - 14 Feb 1902 married in 1849 Elizabeth Chrisman, daughter of Isaac & Sarah (Yeary) Chrisman and granddaughter of Gabriel & Jane (Scott) Chrisman

There's a much longer summary of the Chrisman family on pages 117 0 122 of the same book.
