I TOO, HAVE A FRANZ SIEGEL IN MY FAMILY. HE IS FRANZ SIEGEL HYDE, BORN 1862 IN CHRISTIAN COUNTY. HE WAS THE SON OF SAMUEL HOUSTON HYDE WHO DIED AT THE BATTLE OF SPRINGFIELD ON JAN. 8, 1863. NAMING PATTERNS ARE A WONDER!
TAKE CARE,
DAN HYDE

Hi Mabel,

I saw a recent posting that you made that referenced Franz Siegel Woods. Do
you know when he was born?

Over the years I have found a number of male children amoung my ancestors in
Greene, Dallas, and Christian counties born not long after the battle of
Wilson Creek named for Franz Sigel, the German born (acturally he was born in
Baden as Germany did not exist as a country when he was born) civil war union
commander.

One will note that the spelling varied, but I suspect that is not
surprising. Here are the others that I have found:

David Seigel Rogers Dallas Co, MO

James Segal Tuckness b. Nov 1862 Dallas Co, MO
Siegel F. Hildebrand b. Mar 1862 Dallas Co, MO
Sigel Patton b. Dec 1861 Christian Co, MO
Seigle Austin b. ca 1863 Found in Greene Co, Mo 1880
census
If anyone else has a Franz Sigel (Segal, Seigel, Siegel, Seigle, etc.) born
about this time, please let me know.
Jerry Rogers
