SHE DIED UNMOURNED

Mollie COWAN, an Abandoned Woman, Commits Suicide -- Disgusting Scenes.

Mollie COWAN, a woman of the town, 20 years old, committed suicide in her room at 110 East Sixth street yesterday by taking morphine. She died at 6 o'clock last night. The dead woman came from Gallatin, Mo., her home, about six months ago and went swiftly to the bad. Her desperate act was prompted by despondency. She had made two previous attempts on her life with poison.

The scenes about the deathbed when a "Times" reported visited the place were disgusting in the extreme. Some three or four gawky youths were standing about the doorway spitting tobacco juice on the floor and laughing idiotically at the convulsive breathing of the victim. Two women were seated at the foot of the bed smoking cigarettes, while from another room came the sounds of carousal and the clinking of beer glasses.

(I have no connection with this family but would like to know if you do.)
