Message Board Post:

Ernest B. Shackleford is the son of Frances Jane (Reece) & Archie Shackleford.

Fannie Reece is the daughter of Abraham M. & Jane Jennetta (Hurt) Reece. Born: Aug. 12/14, 1850 in Savannah, Andrew Co, MO (Savannah is what her death certificate states). Died: March 17, 1924 in Lathrop, Clinton Co, MO. First married to Dudley (believed middle name is William) Mitchell on Dec 17, 1868 in Platte Co, MO. From this marriage was born my gg-grandfather William Hardin Mitchell and Nettie (Floy) Mitchell. I'm not sure if "Floy" is her real first name or not, they called her Nettie.

Children of Abraham M. Reece & Jane Jennetta (Hurt) are: William D, Mary K, Nancy J., Sarah E, Joel Jackson (married twice: 1st unknown, 2nd: Mary Catherine Deacons McKee), James Monroe (married Martha Ann Newman. He died on May 6, 1922 by hanging himself in his home), John S, Columbus (married Julia Ann Elliott on Oct 27, 1872 in Andrew Co, MO), Fannie, and Thomas J (married Alice A. Eby (sp?). They moved to MO from NC bwn 1843 and 1850, I believe. Jane Jennetta Hurt was the daughter of William Hurt and Frances Cockerham born about 1812 in (North Carolina). She died sometime after 1895 probably in Atchison Co, KS. Abraham M. Reece was the son of Joel Reece and Sarah Mary Martin. Born Oct 8, 1812 in Surrey or Yadkins Co. Married Jane Jennetta on Sept. 18, 1833 in Surrey Co, NC.

Your Mollie (Haynes) Albright was living next door to Ernest B. Shackleford's uncle Thomas Reece on the 1880 census in Jackson Twp, Clinton Co, MO.

Dudley & Fannie were in Weston, Platte Co, MO on the 1870 Census. Lucy Mitchell (niece) and James Reece (Fannie's brother) was living with them.

On Dec. 5, 1875 Fannie married Archie Shackleford in Platte Co, MO. Archie was born May 25, 1842 in Boone Co, MO. The son of Richard T. Shackleford and Celia Cornelia Hubbard. He died Oct 12, 1927 in Clinton Co, MO. Ernest B. and Pearl were born from this marriage. I have not been able to locate Nettie and Pearl ... or who they married. My grandmother gave me the last name of Weisman and believed that it was Nettie that married this person. She thought they lived near St. Joseph, MO at some point. This last name has not panned out for me yet.

Archie Shackleford served in the Civil War with the 4th Regiment, Missouri State Militia Calvary.

Other children of Richard T. Shackelford and Celia (Hubbard): Celia, Jefferson, Mary E (she may have married Henry Mayo), James Richard (married Sarah Beery on April 5, 1857 in Platte Co, MO), William, Richard Lyon (married Elizabeth Beery on Feb 23, 1862, MO. Sister to Sarah Beery), George H, Archie, Thomas Hubbard (married Elizabeth Jane Heath on Feb 25, 1863 in Platte Co, MO), Benjamin, & Phillip (married Eliza Ann Drais). Richard T. Shackleford and Celia Hubbard were probably (?) married Feb. 19, 1829 in Madison Co, KY. Richard born April 2, 1802 in probably VA. Died Sept 13, 1862 in Platte Co, MO. Celia was born about 1808 (KY?) and died Dec 1, 1884 in Clinton Co, MO.

On the 1880 Census, Archie and Fannie are living in Stanberry, Gentry Co, MO. There is an Annie Hayes (believed to be MY Dudley Mitchell's niece - NOT sure why she'd be living with Fannie and her new husband - since her uncle is the ex-husband ??? ;) Also living next door to them is C.A. Reece, Fannie's brother.

This is where my research has come to an end. I'm just starting to go into NC to try and figure out the Reece side a little more. I hope this helps you at least get started on the Shackleford side. They go back to KY with my Mitchell side...even before Fannie divorced my Mitchell to marry the Shackleford.

GOOD LUCK!
Misty
