Can anyone tell me how or where to obtain information on my (I believe)gr-gr-grandmother who died in/near Otterville, Cooper County in 1874? If the only chance is in St.Louis archives, they want $15 just to look and see if there is such a record/obituary listed. John H. Carpenter and Mrs Amanda Malcolm were married on October 28, 1860 in Cooper County. They were in Chilhowee, Johnson County with daughter Fannie in 1870, but his military papers say that Amanda died in Otterville, on Feb. 20, 1874. Trying to find out what Amanda's maiden name was. Also trying to determine if her daughter,Fannie was my gr-grandmother. The problem is that Amanda died young and my gr-grandmother, Miss Fannie Carpenter Delozier died young. I have the obit for John H. Carpenter and his second wife, Mary Delozier Carpenter. John's obit says that he had a daughter by a previous marriage that preceded him in death, but doesn't name her. This would fit his daughter, Fannie being my gr- grandmoth!
er Fannie that died in the 1890's. John died in 1913.The families moved around a lot. Does anyone know if there is surviving funeral records, school records from that time, anything that can help me out? Amanda's middle initial was M. An Obit for Amanda's first husband or a marriage record would also help out. I think she must have had family in Cooper County since they moved a lot, but came back to Cooper County several times.
