I was able to travel from Calfornia (the state) to Cooper County in April. My daughter and I spent 3 hours at the Historical Society in Pilot Grove. Fabulous people! The Historical Society has web info and I was able to make arrangements for a the visit during their "off" season. They also helped me focus my list of places to visit. On their advice, I crossed off the Boonville Library and added a visit to the State Historical Society in Columbia. 5 days in Boonville netted visits with two relatives I found by checking the phone book before I left home. It was a great trip and I agree with those who said the people in Cooper County are very friendly. The courthouse was a great source of info.

Tip on the courthouse: Wills are only pulled on Friday, and in person. At first I wasn't sure why it was limited until I tried it. They will copy everything in the folder if you want. It's time consuming for them and they are still doing other things - like their job. There is a fee, but worth every penny for me. I found will/probate records for two elusive grandfathers.
