Neighborhood News.
[From Douglas County Leader.]

Fatal Snake Bite. -- On Thursday, June 29, Rev. J. T. Tracy was crossing Little creek, a small stream in Richland tp., barefooted when he saw upon a rock in the water a small snake, not more than eight or ten inches in length. So small was it he took little notice nor made any effort to kill it, but continued on, and as he passed it, it bit him on the little toe, when he discovered it to be a cottonmouth. He immediately went home, about fifty rods distant, but ere arriving there the wound commenced paining him. A cord was tied around his ankle, which soon swelled so badly and the wound so painful that the cord was cut, when both pain and swelling increased rapidly and he lived but twenty-four hours. We did not learn what remedies were applied in addition to the above mentioned.

Mr. Tracy was an ordained preacher of the Methodist denomination, though we believed not been appointed to any regular work in the Church recently. We [missing words] most of the time since the [missing words] a native of Springfield, Ohio, highly respected by all who knew him. He left a wife and several children.
