Rhonda, this is a fascinating bit of history. The item is dated in Mar 1886, just a couple of months before the courthouse was suspiciously burned. By the way, regarding a "blind tiger," my impression was that an enterprising distributor of spirits would have a "hole in the wall" with a door on it. A customer would place money in the hole and close the door. When the customer reopened the door, the money would be gone and a container of whiskey was in its place. If anyone understands it differently, please let us know.
