Bald Knobbers Again
Special to The News
Kansas City, Sept. 14. -- Bald Knob rule was revived in Douglas county last night, and now there is no doubt that the old spirit of outlawry that the recent hangings were expected to have cured is rampant again. A few days ago shots were fired into the Walnut Grove school house in Spring Creek township, Douglas county, and the perpetrators of the outrage were caught and imprisoned. Prosecuting Attorney Wood at Ava, Mo., the county seat of Douglas, offered to compromise on the misdemeanor if the criminals would plead guilty. This they agreed to do. Last night a party of men visited the prosecuting attorney's house and left a bundle of hickory switches, a rope noose, and a threatening note on the attorney's doorstep. The note told him not to accept the guilty plea at the peril of his life. Mr. Wood is very badly frightened.
