Hello. I continue to look for any conclusive info. regarding the litigation of my Great Great Uncle Daniel HAYNES Stoddard, Dunklin Co. MO. He was indicted on thirteen items of forging documents. Partial transcript as follows.
THE WAYNE CO (IL) PRESS
25 Feb. 1897 #32-08
DAN HAYNES IN TROUBLE
Sixteen Indictments Returned Against Him
For Defrauding the Cotton Belt Railroad
(Globe-Democrat, Feb. 19th)
I would like to know how the trial, if there was one, ended. I believe he returned to Stoddard Co. ca. 1905, but don't know where he was before returning there.
He was the first Mayor of Stoddard, (City or Co.?) Dunklin Co MO. Served in the Civil War. Began as Private, or Sgt. and promoted to Captain for bravery on battlefield. Wounded twice during battles. Can't believe this man was a crook. After all, he was my Gx2 Uncle.
Any clues, or answers appreciated.
Many thanks.
