Robin,
I just rec'd the death certificate for my gr-grandfather who died in St.
Louis--Oct. 20, 1910 and there are blanks for parents names and place of
birth--(city, state, town or foreign country) .
Death Certificates are very revealing for the info provided by a surviving
family member at time of death---but I'm realizing that even that info
relies on just how much info that person or family knows.
Re that grandparent who died in 1910--he's the Robert E. WASHBURN, I've been
researching, trying to discover parent's names, etc. Robert's wife, Mary E.
CAVANAUGH, apparently did not know his father's name as it is recorded
"unknown" unfortunately, so I am assuming he was dead before Robert and Mary
married in 1896. And instead of being from Illinois as I thought, the
unknown father is from England. Mary must have known Robert's mother as
she gave the name "Lulu CORN," also from England (instead of MO as I
thought.)
The parents are supposed to have lived in Springfield area at some point
late 1800s.
As it turns out, Mary gave Robert's birthdate (not as Dec, 1865 as I
thought) as Sept. 15, 1864 in MO. I am confortable with her information for
that. I have family info that he was born in Carthage, MO---but all I can be
pretty sure of is that he was born in MO.
So I have learned some interesting things, that on first searches of several
online sites has turned up absolutely nothing. Hopefully, the new info will
lead to some new discovery.
