Apparently the Census taker misspelled Myers as Mires and this really
caused a problem when I first started tracing ancestors. The James Myers 33
m, trader was the son of John W. Myers and the Grandson of John Myers. He
was born in 1827 and that is all I have on him.
Mary is very definitely Mary S. Williams the daughter of John Williams
and Joseph Myers was killed in 1865 by Union Soldiers, although this is not
confirmed. He was a southern sympathizer and it just doesn't make sense
that the Conferees would have killed him. The story handed down says that
he was killed on his farm and Mary was forced to feed the soldiers before
the ransacked the farm and left. Mary married Elijas Thomas Winn (a widower
and neighbor) on Sept 26, 1878. He was much older than she. I would like
more info on the Winn's if anyone is working on this line, they keep popping
up with the Myers and the area around Bunker Hill and Higbee.
Joseph D. Myers was the last child of John and Polly Bassett Myers who
came to Missouri in 1819 from Kentucky. Polly was the second wife of John
and they had 3 children; Cynthia C.; Elizabeth Jane; and Joseph David. all
born in Missouri. John's first wife was Ann Miller and they had 8 children,
all born in Kentucky.
