Subject: [MOHOWARD-L] P. D. Warford, fire 1909
Date: Sun, 7 Jan 2001 19:40:55 -0600
>From "The Higbee News" dated 23 Oct 1909--The residence of P. D. Warford in
the north part of town was destroyed by
fire at noon Friday of last week. By the time a crowd sufficient to be of
any help had
arrived the fire was beyond control, and all turned their attention to
saving the contents of
the house and the house across the street, which was rendered quite
difficult on account
of a very high wind. The most of Mr. Warford's household effects were
saved, but in a
damaged condition. He carried but $725 insurance on the house and contents,
which will
not begin to replace the house. The fire is supposed to have been caused by
a defective
flue, as it was first discovered in the roof near the chimney.
