Elizabeth -

Wish I could give you good info. I have been asking the same questions
since shortly after I was given the info maybe 20 years ago.

My original information came only on one sheet someone sent me (that was
before I knew enought to demand sources - and I still have some problems
there). Most turned out to be correct and so I accepted the rest that I
could not check.

I suspect the date for marriage came from bios of Colden, either of the
present time as through a church writeup or shortly thereafter.
Possibly there was a Bible which has gone missing. The place - well,
that is a different story. I suspect (and this is without any proof
whatever) that someone knew they were from Madison Co at one time, and
just assumed that was where they were married. And the people afterward
fell in line. One researcher told me that because he was a preacher, he
probably moved around and went to SC, then to Madison Co, then back to
SC then to Madison Co again. I believe Nelson Thompson said that, also
(reaching into my memory).

My personal belief with no proof is that the trek was: NC to SC to KY
to MO without moving back and forth. He would have only been 24 which
was awfully early to have been popping around like that as a preacher -
I think. Maybe I am imputing modern day ages.

As far as the MD origination - I think that that was done when the DAR
was much more lenient with accepting people into the DAR. That may be
why it is difficult to get any proof. Now they are much more stringent,
but a lot of fraud was perpetrated in the beginning of the 1900s. Maybe
MD sounded better; maybe someone one time misread MO for MD on a
document. Maybe there was a Williams in MD they wanted to be allied with.

Williams makes me tear my hear out, and I have just begun.

By the way, I tried to access the Williams page earlier today, but it
just loaded again and again, without stopping. I finally gave up after
trying about 8 times. So my Priscilla Williams Thompson death
certificate is not there. I can scan it and send it to anyone who wants
it. (And because I just got my scanner, does anyone know which is
better - imaging, Adobe ActiveShare, Works Portfolio?)

Sorry this does not add to knowledge.

Carolyn
