Hi -
I was back in the probate records of Howard Co Volume I. Did not find a
lot of new stuff, but here is a tiny tidbit about a slave:
28 May 1821 Re: administration of Estate of John W Foster: "To the hire
of slave William from the 1st day January 1820 to the 1st day of January
1821 $40.00 Bk1p4
29 Aug 1821 Robert Cooper administrator of the Estate of Braxton Cooper
deceased having made proof of notice for a settlement of his accounts of
the administration of said Estate at this term of the Court present the
following accounts to wit the Estate of Braxton Cooper deceased.
To cash paid R Brown Guardian of Polly Cooper Catherine Cooper and
Fannie Cooper hiers of B Cooper as per receipts:
To cash paid Robt Brown as above $179.75 and $209.50;
property delivered to Robert Brown on same account $1612.00;
cash paid Robert Brown on same account $207.60, $560.00, $16.80.
To property delivered to Robert Brown in right of his wife as one of the
heirs at valuation as per transcript page 3, $681.33;
To note of Robert Brown discounted to him above as per Transcript page
6; (wow, I missed the amount)
to amount of Robert Brown note accounted as above on same account as per
transcript page 6, $15.00;
To amount of property bought by Brown at the sale and discounted to him
as per transcript page 8-9, $79.25.
Total amt received by Robt Brown in right of his wife $813.08.
Too amount of property received by Robert Cooper as one of the heirs at
the appraised value as per transcript page 5, $636.50;
to amount of the sale of negro call Jim and retained by Robert Cooper on
same account as per transcript page 10, $138.00;
to amount of the sale of one cow retained by R Cooper as above as per
transcript page 9, $7.00;
To amount of R Cooper note retained by him as heir as per transcript
page 6, $14.75;
Total amount received by R Cooper.
To loss in exchange of Kentucky money for good money on $720.05 as per
No 9: $140.00
To paid for collecting $759 from Shackelford per No 8: $37.95
To paid in exchange of twenty one dollards Kentucky money for currant
money as per No 15: $4.20
Total amount of credits: $5227.15 ½
In account with said estate
To whole ammount of said Estate in his hands as appraised = $885.25
Balance the admr of which he has overpaid and which is due him from said
estate: $341.90 ½
