I've got something on Joseph Dillard -- I believe. There was a Byler --
Dillard connection in either Cooper or Morgan Co., -- but it would make
sense in the scheme of things. This in on my African Americans in MO
index of Wills.
Actually its Thomas Dillard Jr.:
I was checking your website and I found Joseph Byler of Cooper Co.
listed as > a slave owner. His wife
Rebecca Dillard was left Rachael and January in the will of her father
Thomas Dillard Jr. in 1784. Rebecca was
only about 6 months old when he died, I am not sure how old Rachael and
January were so am not sure if they
made it to Missouri with them. But some of their children did, I am sure.
Rebecca Dillard Byler and my 5th
g-grandmother Stacy Dillard Elkins were sisters. I have a copy of the
will on line at

The BYLERs also married into the HOWARD family -- where there is a
CHISM/HOWARD connection. Abram Byler married Penelope Howard. I think
in 1870 Penelope Byler has the PATTERSON family living with her... and
in 1880 my ancestor Marion Wilson was a servant for Edwin Patterson who
ran the Ravenswood Farm. The Bylers also married into the Wilson family
[Joseph Byler married Mary Wilson] and the Stephens, Ferrell and
Gilbraeth.
Colden fits into the time and place.
I have some additional information on the Dillards -- they came from
Edgecomb, NC -- Thomas has to go back to NC to settle his father or
brother's estate. I've gotta look for those papers. There's a book
about the BYLER family and thes details about the Dillards are mentioned
-- I have a small bit of notes.
