This is a letter of complaint on behalf of a fellow researcher, Kathy Bowlin. Kathy has worked tirelessly for the last 5 years extracting articles of interest from the Higbee, MO newspapers and posting them weekly to the appropriate sites for Randolph, Boone, and Howard Co., Missouri. Every single posting has a "Copyright" Disclaimer. It has come to Kathy's attention that Yellowstone Genealogy Forum; specifically, Jere Duncan has taken her work and posted to the Yellowstone site. This clearly is in violation of her wishes........ is an absolute "plagarism" by Ms. Duncan, and in violation of RootsWeb description of "Acceptable Use Policy."
Ms. Duncan should be ashamed of herself for taking Kathy Bowlin's hard work and giving other searchers the impression that she is responsible for these transcriptions. It is true that she doesn't take credit on their website for these transcriptions, however, I think it is more telling in what she didn't say.
As a supporter of RootsWeb and a fellow searcher of Kathy Bowlin, I ask that RootsWeb take immediate action to remedy this injustice. Jere Duncan should be admonished for her outright thievery and Yellowstone Genealogy Forum should be reprimanded for not checking the sources of information they're posting to the web.
As a result of this deceitful action by Ms. Jere Duncan, Kathy Bowlin has advised all searchers in the three counties mentioned above, that she will no longer do transcriptions until this matter is straightened out. I am very angry that so many of us should suffer the consequences of one person. These transcriptions must be removed from the Yellowstone Genealogy Forum site, immediately and a retraction and apology be forwarded to Ms. Bowlin.
