A WOMAN STRUCK BY TRAIN.
As a passenger train on the "airline" division of the Kansas
City Southern Railway was approaching Independence at
7 o'clock yesterday morning an aged woman, clad only in a
nightgown, was seen on the track in the cut under the River
Boulevard Bridge, apparently crawling on hands and knees.
The train was stopped, but not until it had knocked her body
to one side of the track. She was taken to the Independence
Sanitarium.
It was learned that she is Mrs. Matilda KELLOGG, widow of
Richard E. KELLOGG. She is 79 years old, and for the past
year has lived with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
W. A. HAMMOND, 726 North River Boulevard. Rising early
yesterday morning, she wandered out of the house and down
on the railroad track, which is about one hundred yards north
of the HAMMOND residence. Dr. E. D. TYMAN, who treated
her injuries, said her condition was dangerous.
