Joplin Globe - 3 June 1933:
Veteran Cattle Buyer Dies Here - W. E. Dabbs of Anderson Had Been Buyer in Midwestern Markets Thirty Years - W.E. Dabbs of Anderson, veteran cattle buyer on midwestern markets for the past thirty years, died at 10:15 o'clock last night at Freeman hospital. He was 60 years old.
He had been a medical patient about three weeks.
Lately Mr. Dabbs had confined his operations to the Joplin stockyards market, where he was an independant cattle buyer and shipper. He was regarded as one of the shrewdest cattle men in the middle west and an expert judge of other kinds of livestock as well.
During his long career as buyer, Mr. Dabbs operated on all the major markets of this area, including Kansas City, St. Joseph, Omaha and East St. Louis. His judgement of beef cattle was proverbial among traders on all these markets.
Noted for his wit and ability at repartee, the veteran stockman was one of the most popular members of the buyer fraternity at the local yards.
Funeral arrangements have not been made. The body was taken to the establishment of the Hurlbut Undertaking Company.

Mr. Dabbs had been a resident of Anderson thirty years. He was born at Rocky Comfort, and was married in 1893 to Anna Briscoe, who survives. Surviving also are two daughters, Mrs. R.A. Greer and Doris Dabbs, both of Anderson, and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Hurd of Decatur, Ark., and Mrs.Lillian Chaffin of Coweta, OK.
