I must love a good puzzle or a great headache.
I have a book written(hand written) by my husbands aunt about the family. She has the following about Zachariah Motley.
Zachariah Motley, ninth child of Thomas and Narcissa, was born near Settle, KY. in 1841. He married Mary Catherine Willoughby in 1862. During the memory of my father(Charles Louis Motley), Grandpap was called "Old man Zack Motley" by his neighbors and friends, though he was only 49 when he died of typhoid fever in 1890. Uncle Vincent, his son, died the same time of the same disease.
Grandpap Zack Motley was a good neighbor and a hospital person. It was not uncommon for as many as 20 to 30 guest to eat at his house every Sunday. His favorite pastime was hunting. He kept a number of hounds for this purpose. Our father was 14 when Grandpap died. There was some debt on the farm so the three boys, Marion, Ewing, and Charles worked and paid it off.
James Motley, son of John and Elizabeth, born in 1775 in NC. This is the only child I have. I will try the Motley book as soon as I can.
My husband is dying from cancer so I spend a lot of time on the computer near him to help pass the times he sleeps. I had put my research away for a long time and it is giving my a lot of enjoyment now.
We are in TN and still have relative in Bowling Green, KY so I hope to go up there to do more digging.
