Looks like your John was still alive in 1920...

Michener, John 41 1878 Iowa White Joplin, Jasper,
Missouri

I did not find John in 1930 but did find son, Rusell,
living in Tulsa...but the image would not load...

Joplin Library has a pretty complete collection of the
newspapers of the 20's but they are not all on
microfilm...They do have a catalogue of obits, births
and marriages from the papers but I have no idea how
complete they are...
