Requesting look up and possibly photo of headstone of Raymond Daniel Foster (and wife Mary Woodrow Foster) in the Ozark Memorial Park cemetery. He died 1-31-1940, buried 2-2-1940. He was born 9-7-1872 in MN, moved to Jasper Co in 1882. According to newspaper article 2/1/1940 he was a pioneer Joplin restaurant man. Looking for name of the restaurant, and information on his son, James 'Roy' Leroy Foster, 1906-1974. Newspaper transcript:
PIONEER RESTAURANT MAN KILLS HIMSELF
Raymond D. Foster, 67, Places Muzzle of Shotgun in Mouth and Pulls Trigger
Raymond Daniel Foster, 67 years old, pioneer Joplin restaurant man, killed himself with a shotgun about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home near Seventh street and Turkey creek bridge, east of the city. Mr. Foster used a .12-gauge shotgun, the muzzle of which he placed in his mouth. He used a broomstick with wire attachment to press the trigger. He died instantly. Had Been Despondent. He left a note which indicated he had been despondent, investigating officers said. He had been in ill health the last seven years. Mr. Foster and a son, Roy Foster, established a restaurant at 313 Joplin street, which the son now operates. He came to Joplin with his parents when he was 10 years old. He was a member of the Latter-day Saints church. He had been associated in the restaurant business nearly all his life and had operated eating establishments in several different locations. Surviving, besides the son, are his widow, Mrs. Mary Amelia Foster, and three daughters, M!
rs. Clyde Trease of Joplin, Mrs. Earl Shepard of Wichita and Mrs. Pearl Mehringer of Kensley, Kan. The body was removed to the Thornhill-Dillon mortuary where Coroner A. N. Winchester will conduct an investigation.
