Hi!
I'm new to this list. I am researching the Eden Train Wreck that
happened near Pueblo, Colorado on August 7, 1904. It is believed that over
100 people perished in that disaster. I have on the list of victims a lady
named Jeanette Sherman of Carthage, Missouri. I don't have much other
information on her, but I did find an obituary of who I believe to be her
father on the internet. Her father was named Isaac Schurman, who died in
1914, and his obituary states that he had a daughter who perished in the
Eden Train Wreck (cleverly not giving her name) in 1904. I'm guessing that
his daughter is the same as Jeanette Sherman. I have found the family on
Prince Edward Island in Canada in the 1881 Canadian census, listing Jeanette
as being born on Prince Edward Island about 1865. Isaac's obituary also
stated that she was well-educated and highly accomplished, leading me to
believe that she was probably a teacher, probably still single. It also
states that the family moved to Carthage in 1891. I would appreciate
corresponding with anyone who has information on the Schurman/Sherman family
or that could give me any information about Jeanette Sherman, victim of the
train wreck. Since the family was formerly from Prince Edward Island, I'm
not sure if the body would have been shipped to Carthage or on to Prince
Edward Island. It's likely that she was buried near to where her younger
brother, Elias, was buried. Elias died around 1899 or 1900 during the
Spanish American War. Thanks for any help!
