Unfortunately, the information below is incorrect! There are many births and deaths that apparently were not filed correctly, if they were filed at all. In some cases, the handwriting was so bad the record couldn't be read or was read incorrectly. Spelling could really be off also. In some cases the person may be there, but listed under their given name instead of their surname. Thomas LESLIE for example, may end up Leslie THOMAS.

Yes this is true even of the period after 1911, when it was required by law that the records be filed.

If you need a date of death to look for an obit, go to the Missouri Death
index..It has all deaths from 1905-1955 indexed..Some decades have all death
certificates online and available to be printed...
