I don't know if it is any help or not, because you may already have this
one, but Walter is a son to Belle and James M. You can find his death
certificate at the Mo. Death Certificates site.

Subject: [MOJASPER] NEED HELP TO CONFIRM A MURDER STORY - HARBIN
I need help, please, to prove or disprove a family story. James Madison
HARBIN was 44 and a laborer on a steam jig in Joplin in 1900, wife Belle
Boone Thomas. There were several kids. Belle remarried an Eli Francis
in 1908 according to the 1910. The story goes like this. James owned a
saloon and after a financial transaction in the backroom one night, he
was found dead in the alley with no money.
SO - if there is any truth to it, is there an index to deaths or burials
in the Joplin area from 1900-1910 that list his death? AND if he did
die in that period, could someone check for me to find an obit or
account of how it occurred? I've already checked the Gen Web without
any success, although it is a neat website.
