This is just a thought- Mining is associated with a town called Cardin Oklahoma which is just a few miles from the Missouri border. The name Cardin might be associated with that town. Also, check in Galena Ks as it is between the Missouri Border and Cardin Ok. There were the 3 states Mo Ks & Ok that had lots of mining in the early 1900's and all close together geographically.
