Someone recently asked about "an old Greyhound race track that may have been located on or near Fountain Rd? My Dad use to race greyhounds at that track."
That track was located on North Main Street about 2/3 miles north of
Fountain Street (which made it about 1/3 mile south of Stones Corner).
It was on the west side of the street. I lived 1/2 mile west of
North Main Street on Fountain Street (although it wasn't called Fountain at
that time). I worked at the Fountain during my school year 1941-42
as a car hop. I was 15 at the time and was a sophmore at Carl Junction
High School. I worked for the magnificant salary of 5cents and hour!!!
We used to get people who had gone to the race track as well as
people who owned greyhounds that raced there. Them were the days!!!!
I don't recall how long the race track operated -- the US entered
WWII in December 41 so that may have put a real damper on the racing -- I
just don't recall.
